How to Maintain Tents on Hybrids/Expandables

If you have a hybrid trailer with a tent, you may notice condensation and possibly even minor leaks the first few times the tent is used. Here’s what to expect and how to care for the unit:

Depending on weather conditions, condensation may form inside the coach, most likely overnight. To reduce or even eliminate the condensation, open the upper corner of the bunkend panel a half inch or one inch, and fold it over to allow some air to move across the roof panel.

All vinyl tents need to get wet at least once to seal the needle holes. It may leak the first time it gets wet, but do not be alarmed. It is sewn with thread that swells up and seals the needle holes after it has been exposed to water.

To prevent leaks while using the tent, don’t place objects against the tent walls or over-extend or stretch the tent. Do not put away the tent when it is wet. If you must leave a campsite during wet weather, be sure to open the tent and allow it to dry within 48 hours.

Always dry the tent with bows and braces in place as soon as possible after it’s exposed to moisture.

Don’t raise the tent to its maximum height in extremely cold, zero degree weather, as the windows may shatter.

To clean your tent, use mild soapy water and a soft bristle brush and rinse it with a hose using a spray nozzle. Do not use solvents, detergents, or aerosol cleaners.
